Whispering Winds

The lesson on building depth with just black and white before layering in the autumn colors really clicked for me—my trees finally have that sense of distance I could never get before. Finished it in one rainy afternoon, and the fiery reds and golds make the whole room feel warmer already.

The fall foliage palette is just gorgeous—those reds and golds pop off the canvas. I spent a whole afternoon on the black-and-white space exercise first, and it really made the final color layers feel more dimensional.

The black-and-white underpainting exercise really taught me how to read light before ever touching those fiery reds, and the final result has a depth I didn't expect from a kit. I hung it in my hallway and keep catching myself staring at the way the oranges seem to glow off the canvas.
